WHAT TO DO IN TORONTO: CHECK OUT WINTER STATIONS 2016 | “In The Belly of the Bear”

A few days ago, we watched a CTV news segment on the Winter Stations Design Competition of 2016…it really caught our attention and we thought that it would be great to check out some cool installations in our beautiful city!

So, we figured that yesterday was a perfect day to visit KEW beach to see a few winter stations. One of the installations called “In The Belly of the Bear” (designed by Caitlind r.c. Brown, Wayne Garrett and Lane Shordee from Calgary) really caught our eyes…to see a huge contrast of a massive black wooden ball with the white snow in the foreground and the lake/sky in the background. Some of the locals have told us that we were very fortunate to be sitting inside the “Belly of the Bear” with no line-ups. It was pretty awesome to check out the interior of the belly up-close and personal…we were able to sit on a fabricated fur bench which faced a circular window in order to take in the beautiful view of lake Ontario…it was nice to touch the fur lining of the dome and it really kept us warm by blocking the wind!

The purpose of this competition was to re-image the beach’s lifeguard stand…as we climbed up the wooden ladder, we honestly felt like kids climbing up a tree house…and what a perfect way for us to share the experience with each other as kids at heart =)

Overall, it was great to see a couple of winter stations and we’ll definitely return to see the remaining art installations!

Hope you enjoy the video!
