LP Love JA – Part 1 – DJ YELLOW CULTURE

This is Part 1 in a series of vignettes on the people of Port Antonio, Jamaica.

We recently went to Jamaica for Nana & Ryan’s wedding shoot and stayed in a bed and breakfast in Drapers called ‘Search Me Heart’ for the week.

Search Me Heart is run by Yellow Culture and his wife Rosanna, who have been together for 10 years. We were also staying there with two other couples, Matt & Jen + Kiyomi & Paul. Both couples friends of the Bride since highschool.

On the Monday after the wedding it happened to be the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence. So to celebrate, Yellow Culture (a dj for over 30+ years) played out from his yard for everyone in the neighbourhood.

Throughout the night, friends and family and neighbours showed up to vibe out and catch up over an amazing range of great music. It was a pleasure to witness him play with such genuine love and appreciation for what he does.

At the end of the night we asked him if he would talk to us about his history of becoming a dj….(and even about the secrets to a successful relationship -> vimeo.com/lapointeproductions/trust)

From that interview and that set he played we were inspired to cut this piece.

Our experience at Search Me Heart was incredible, both Yellow Culture and Rosanna were excellent hosts (and great cooks!). We genuinely felt welcomed by them and and really couldn’t have asked for a better experience being our first time to Jamaica.

This piece is dedicated to them (and Roy!). Thank you both for your hospitality and friendship. I know we’ll be back again one day soon.

One Love.

Happiness, Joy & Love,

– L & B
